Solid safe school horses are the foundation of Marit Stables. In order for a new rider to develop their riding skills and build up confidence, safety is paramount. Every school horse at Marit Stables has a calm disposition, kind heart and patience. They all know their job and are steady, solid mounts that have miles of teaching, handling and lengthy show experience under them. When a rider is ready and wants to participate in a horse show our schoolmasters behave in the show ring like they were at home.
Cookie: 23 years old, Liver Chestnut Section A Welsh Pony Mare. Cookie has started so many young riders on their path to becoming confident horseback riders that the Marit family has lost count. Everyone loves this kind, patient “Steady Eddie” schoolmaster who has a very willing and co-operative attitude. As a new young rider learns the basics of riding, Cookie instinctually takes care of them. Cooke is the same pony at home or in the show ring.
16 years old, Section A Welsh pony on lease from Drogheda Farm. Aaron is a beautiful Red Roan pony with a kind personality. When Aaron is show ring ready the cameras are clicking, as he’s so adorable. Aaron also likes the daily attention from the farm donkey and pig.

Raindrop is a miniature horse. She is a young & a small miniature horse for her division. We all wanted to have a miniature horse to play around with at the barn so we bought her. Raindrop loves receiving attention, meeting new friends and she’s very fun for the little children to lead around, brush and pet. We use Raindrop to start teaching children on how to halter a horse, lead, where to stand, be safe, so they are comfortable around horses. Raindrop has also trained many grandparents on the basic fundamentals of horse handling. We get a thrill out of her pulling her little cart around our yard and skijoring behind her in the winter. Raindrop is our forever school pony.
Blaze, our old faithful Quarter Horse has been a school horse in our barn for a countless number of years. We are grateful to have the use of him as he belongs to my niece. He was shown as a hunter and was a champion quarter horse in many divisions over the years. Blaze is a quiet calm sensible good ole soul quarter horse. We bought him from the farm where we got a lot of our other horses in the past. He has the greatest personality and kindest disposition. Blaze is around 15 hands high and goes English, Western, Bareback, Sideways Upside down and he’s awesome.
Summer is our biggest horse on the place standing around 18 HH. She is the kindest Clydesdale you can imagine. Summer is only six-years-old with a temperament of an old seasoned school horse. We bought this mare to be a recipient mare for future embryo transfers. However in the interim, students double up and ride her bareback or learn to drive. Often we hitch her up to all sorts of apparatus’s and she willingly pulls us along. Nothing fazes Summer as she’s a calm quiet sensible animal that we all really like to play with.
